breaking: airports, shopping malls to replace emergency heart defibrillators with pair of headphones and mightyfools tracks

if i was married, i would currently be having an affair with this track from wonk and stomp machines mightyfools. having already dropped some pretty massive tracks in 2009, with tracks remixed by the likes of all-star producers such as AC Slater as well as Blatta and Inesha, they are most definitely the ones to look out for in 2010. this original fix has a quaint little middle eastern flare to it that warps into this wobbly, wonky red-eyed monster that sounds like a beetroots b-side, one that was produced shortly after snorting half the coke in colombia. the latter track, addict, is just as unforgiving and menacing as "hoo-ha," with huge breaks, spine snapping bass and more of a house feel to it.

cleveland based supervisor releases ambient, LSD-friendly tune

i admittingly know very little if anything about this band, but i do know that this track sounds like something explosions in the sky would produce, and that is a very promising prospect. the ballerina music-box intro blends into this beautiful, haunting crooning that soon becomes accompanied by these crashing cymbals that evolves it into something simply hypnotic, a beautiful dreamy number that is going to be on my playlist well into the new year.

this song makes me want to motorboat my speakers

zeds dead has only been together for the latter half of 2009, and since forming have been putting out some really fucking massive remixes. they have a knack for making those hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and possibly begin dancing. they seem extremely versatile, having produced hip-hop before switching to dubstep this versatility shines from the glitchy, bouncing retake they did on the pretender to their dub-heavy, horrorshowheadfuck track dark side dub that you should probably listen to with the lights on.

There's shit in my stocking

Julian Casablancas recently performed "I Wish It Was Christmas Today" on Jimmy Fallon's late night talk show alongside Jimmy and Horatio Sanz . These are the things I'm finding difficult to understand:

1) His feather earring. There is no way he has been hanging out with Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) but I can't think of any other explanation.
2) He is solo. promoting his solo album. and singing like he's in the Strokes. These are the heavy vocals I was waiting to hear on 'Phrazes For The Young' to no avail.
3) This song is a cover of an SNL version. ::clears throat:: I repeat, this is a cover of an SNL song (which he recorded months before being on Fallon's show (?) and you can now buy on itunes).

At first he's slightly heartwarming and at one point even (kind of) seems to be enjoying himself. Then he blows his cover and I remember- this is the guy that refuses to sign autographs: Jimmy and Horatio begin the Ashlee Simpson jig; Julian pulls a classic hipster move by shoving his hands in his pockets and scratching his head as the judgement seeps out from behind his blues brother Ray Bans and he exits stage right.

Julian Casablancas has no idea who he is as a solo artist and maybe he never did-- but he is not JT. And this is not Rock and Roll.

Fk Me

i cant really explain riptides sound, all i can say is that it's huge. this song rolls about with this bouncing, buzzsaw sample that builds and builds until it finally crashes along with this filthy distortion that will simply own you. this track demands to be played at top volume and pregnant women along with people who have heart complications need to remain at a safe distance when this song is playing.

trash yourself

trash yourself will be bashing skulls in with their eclectic blend of neck jerking, overdrive-heavy thrash electro at halfway to forecastle in january. they teamed up with my favorite parisian producer, the toxic avenger, for a quaint little number entitled "die" where heidi cannon's hypnotic chanting gives way to a signature toxic avenger beat, that's reminiscent of a drug-crazed-synthesizer being hooked up to a car battery with rusty barbwire. i absolutely cannot wait to see what kind of show these guy's put on, but it's most definitely going to be worth checking out if your within 500 miles of Louisville on Jan. 23rd.

warp 1977

my beloved beetroots just recently released "christmas vendetta: spares of romborama" on complete fuckbag steve aoki's (aka kid benihana) Dim Mak lable. the reason's i hate steve aoki are aplenty, but ill save that for another post. anyways, it seems as if the bloody beetroots have pretty much milked this whole warp thing for all it's worth, i mean fuck the song came out months ago and they are still remixing it, i think there are 4 to date, and that's just beetroot remixes. anyways, this installment is especially chaotic, featuring highly distorted vocals and the same scourging, slaughterhouse synths that made warp a hit to begin with.
